Sanyo Shinkansen damaged after hitting person in tunnel
The nose of a 700 series Nozomi Shinkansen was severely damaged some time after 2pm today within Kitakyushu City after coming into contact with a person at high speed in a tunnel between Kokura and Hakata stations.
The train was taken out of service at Shin-Shimonoseki Station with delays reported on the line from Kagoshima Station in southern Kyushu all the way to Shin-Osaka Station.
Photos of the train show a large hole in the left front of the train’s nose cone and what appear to be blood stains.
No information has been released about the presumed victim of the incident.
